Anti-Inflammatory Warm Turmeric Drink

Anti-Inflammatory Warm Turmeric Drink

This creamy, warm turmeric drink is truly one of my ultimate favorites for recovery and restoration, especially during these cold winter months! It is a delicious, anti-inflammatory boost for your body.

Here’s why I love it and why I know you’ll love it too.

Not only is it delicious and comforting but the superfood powers of turmeric truly unleash great recovery potential from physical and emotional stress. How? It activates a multitude of healthy cascades within our bodies. When you pair a small pinch of pepper with the power of turmeric, it allows the beneficial ingredients within the turmeric to become ‘active’ and do their job best. You can learn more about the benefits of turmeric and why it’s so good for you in this post all about the health benefits of turmeric root, the yellow ‘superstar’ of superfoods.

But, if you want the cliff notes version of the benefits so you can get right to the recipe you’ve been waiting for and enjoy your drink, then you should know: very few products can compete with the long term, anti-inflammatory track record of turmeric.

Ancient traditional Indian doctors have been administering turmeric for centuries, using it for topical and internal inflammation relief long before Western cultures ever started to uncover its medicinal properties.

Are you ready to enjoy the benefits of turmeric along with me?

All you’ll need to make this warm turmeric drink is some fresh coconut milk, turmeric paste or powder, and a few staple ingredients from your spice rack!

HEALTHY KITCHEN TIP: This recipe uses coconut milk. You can make your own coconut milk easily with just 2 ingredients. Use 1-2 tbsp coconut cream mixed with 1 cup of water using a blender or whisked together with a fork. It is really that easy and you skip all the additives that can come in boxed versions! I prefer the Natural Value Organic Coconut Cream because it does not have any additives, including guar gum. Randomly, right now there is a 15 percent discount when you order a case of 12 on Amazon. I don’t know how long it will be there.

Warm Turmeric Drink

Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, Soy-Free, Vegan, Vegetarian

Makes 1 Serving

  • Whisk or fork for mixing
  • Bowl or jar with an air-tight lid

(Note: Use all organic, fresh ingredients if possible)

I make my own turmeric paste using the recipe in the SuperLife 10-Day Nutrition Program. It is delicious, activates the turmeric, and makes recipes like this super fast.  There are two sets of directions below: one using the turmeric paste and one using ingredients from your own pantry if desired!

1 tbsp turmeric paste

1 tsp vanilla extract

½ tsp cinnamon

1 cup coconut milk

Optional extra sweetener:

– 1 tsp raw honey or maple syrup

– Stevia for sweetness with no added sugar

  1. Add all ingredients to a saucepan and gently warm over low heat.
  2. Use an immersion blender or pour into blender and blend for 30 second or until creamy and foamy.
  3. Pour into a mug and enjoy!

If you want to make this recipe without the turmeric paste add:

1 tsp powdered turmeric

1 tsp coconut oil

1 pinch of powered ginger

1 tsp Manuka honey (or any raw, unprocessed honey! Adding refined honey is just adding sugar.)

A dash of Himalayan Sea Salt or Celtic Sea Salt

A pinch of ground black pepper

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 tsp cinnamon (note: if you love the flavor of cinnamon, you can add a 1/2 tsp. You can always add, but can’t subtract, so start with the lower amount.)

1 cup coconut milk

Optional Topping:

an extra shake of cinnamon or nutmeg

  1. Add milk of choice and powdered turmeric to a saucepan and whisk together until mixed.
  2. Allow to slowly simmer on low heat for up to 5 minutes. (No need to simmer if using turmeric paste, as it has already been previously cooked).
  3. Pour into blender and add remaining ingredients and blend for 30 second or until creamy and foamy.
  4. Pour into a mug and enjoy!

as I am new to medicinal eating, I only had cow’s milk in my fridge. I couldn’t wait to try after I had finished making my turmeric paste. It was delicious! Next time I will try the coconut milk.
