Breaking Down Your Past to Build Your Future | Neil Strauss

Breaking Down Your Past to Build Your Future | Neil Strauss

The pain of your past can be hard to revisit. But if you want to grow and evolve in this present moment, you have to be willing to unpack your past, break down your unhealthy patterns, and open yourself up to change so that you can build healthy connections and relationships in the future.

Welcome to The Darin Olien Show,

This episode features one of my best friends, the brilliant writer Neil Strauss.

Besides being the host of one of the most popular podcasts on the planet, To Live and Die in LA, Neil is a seven-time New York Times best-selling author and is the king of “shockingly honest journalism.” He dives into topics and subject matter that make most people a tad uncomfortable and makes these necessary conversations the focal point of his writing.

Neil and I discuss the painful parts of his childhood that he realized were affecting his current relationships. We got into some mind-blowing concepts like “reparenting” and why he always recommends group therapy when someone is looking to break down their unhealthy patterns.

Tune in to listen to this enlightening conversation and learn a little bit more about Neil and the stories behind his amazing books.

In This Conversation:
  • Why our guy’s therapy group is so important to both of us
  • The retreats and programs Neil recommends
  • How to build a “family of choice”
  • “Reparenting” and how your relationship with your parents shapes your current relationships
  • Why Neil doesn’t put his photo in his books
  • What Neil wants to be known for
  • This episode’s Fatal Convenience™: Ignoring Emotional Anger

Really enjoying these podcast episodes; very interesting guests with amazing and important stories to tell! By the way, I’d really like to see the key takeaway points from the Fatal Conveniences part of the show summarised somewhere on each page – especially ones where you mention names of harmful chemicals, for example. Maybe even include some links for further recommended reading, if possible? Just a thought! Keep up the great work and take care! 🙂
