Chlorine Pools | Fatal Conveniences™

Chlorine Pools | Fatal Conveniences™

Who doesn’t love a nice dip in the pool? I know I do! When I was a kid, you couldn’t get me out of the swimming pool in the summer. But the majority of backyard and public pools are chlorine pools. If chlorine is strong enough to kill algae, bacteria, and germs, what is it doing to your body as you swim through it?

WELCOME TO Fatal Conveniences™. Fact - Scientists have found over 600 disinfectant byproducts in chlorine pools that are linked to cancer

I love to swim. I have a pool at my property, and I swim as much as I can. But most pools are treated with liquid chlorine or chlorine tablets to keep them clean and sanitary. While sanitation is necessary, chlorine pools can become a health hazard for you, and your kids.

In this episode, I break down the history of chlorine pools and why swimming pools are such a popular form of entertainment and exercise. We dive into the dangers of chlorine and chlorine byproducts, according to a few scientific studies. And we compare saltwater vs chlorine pools. I will also give you some tips on what to look out for when visiting public swimming pools. While I know there are non chlorine swimming pools out there, I also understand that it’s not an accessible option for everyone. I’m only in the beginning stages of converting my chlorine pool, and there have definitely been quite a few challenges! But since I don’t want to give up swimming, I’m trying to learn how to do it in a better way– let me share what I’ve learned with you!

Can’t wait to “dive” into this. Recent experience after joining the only gym….affiliated w local large hospital no less….just to use the pool and attend water aerobics classes.
The pools (one was a THERAPY pool for patients who needed rehabilitation!) were cloudy and reeked of chlorine. I asked about this and was told that they were working on an issue at that moment.
I went again to another class and same thing. Then I noticed something, I have multiple solid silver John Hardy bracelets that i never remove. Have had and worn for many years and in many pools, etc. all over the world literally.
They had tarnished to almost BLACK! Another thing was going on….which I attributed to change of seasons and being allergy prone. My eyes….were red and burning constantly.
I addressed this finally with the director of the facility. She denied any issues and when I asked if I could take a sample of the water….was escorted out.
They refunded my membership but I still wish I could report this to the health department. It’s criminal to let innocent people who are so trusting swim in these chemicals. Our skin is the largest organ of our body….this was eye opening.
Thanks for all you do to educate and enlighten Darin….glad I found your podcast!
