Understanding Your Conscience | Leonard Perlmutter

Understanding Your Conscience | Leonard Perlmutter

What exactly is your conscience? Most of us think of our conscience as that little voice in our head that distinguishes from right and wrong. But it’s so much more than that. And you have more control over your conscience than you think.

Leonard Perlmutter wants us all to pay closer attention to our conscience. But not in the way you probably think.

As the founder and director of The American Meditation Institute, Leonard is overtly aware of his conscience. But he wasn’t always. After studying under Swami Rama of the Himalayas, he dedicated his life to the inner workings of the mind. It has been scientifically proven that human blood pressure, heart rate and the entire autonomic nervous system can be voluntarily controlled by the mind. This is done through mindful meditation and harnessing your conscience.

You could say Leonard is a bit obsessed with the human conscience.

He even wrote a book on it. YOUR CONSCIENCE: The Key to Unlock Limitless Wisdom and Creative and Solve All of Life’s Challenges is simple approach to complicated concepts. Anyone who wants to live a more fulfilling life by trusting their conscience can get something from this enlightening book.

I wanted to have Leonard on my show, not only because I find his work fascinating, but because I share a similar passion. I’ve always been fascinated with psychology and how the mind works, and love featuring these kinds of aspects of wellness on my show. He said multiple things in this conversation that really resonated with me- especially the bit on recognizing the power of anger. I feel like everyone has a quick fuse these days, and the way Leonard broke down the brain’s response to anger could be really helpful to anyone that finds themself struggling with powerful emotions. So if you want to understand your thoughts, your emotions and how your conscience works into the puzzle- enjoy!
